1. From the Apple menu select "About this Mac"

2. Double click on the version text between the apple logo and the "Software Update" button.

The serial number is etched or printed (depending on model) to the bottom of the iMac. Gently lay the front of the iMac on a clean cloth or soft surface to reveal the serial and model number.
